My name is Sandra Segall, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Montgomery, Alabama. I have a Master’s Degree in Psychology and spent an extra 4 years working toward my doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

I grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. At age 16, I decided to be part of the Careers in Mental Health Program at Boston State Hospital. That was when I decided what I was going to do with my professional life.

I attended Girls Latin School for 6 years, and later Boston University, where I graduated in 1969 cum laude with Distinction in Psychology. I received a Master’s degree in psychology the following year in 1970, and spent the next four years in training. Following an internship in Clinical Psychology at Children’s Hospital Medical Center, I participated in various traineeships at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, the Boston Veterans Hospital, and the Boston University Medical Center.

I was in class XV of Leadership Montgomery, and have been interviewed many times by the Montgomery Advertiser. I also have the distinction of having been appointed by the Supreme Court of Alabama as a Certified Child Custody Mediator. Most recently, I was interviewed by WSFA-TV about micro-cheating.

I am now in my 35th year of practice as a therapist. I have treated serious mental illness, but my focus in private practice has been high-functioning people who are having trouble individually, with children, or in relationships with their significant others.

I bring compassion, empathy, and a wealth of experience into my therapeutic practice, along with multiple modalities to help you reach your treatment goals, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavior Modification and Child Play Therapy for children. For couples, I use the Gottman Method and the Couples Institute. With individuals, I use Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, particularly when issues resulting from the family of origin are causing current problems. I also use Positive Psychology, Life Coaching to help those who are having career problems or relationship problems, and am a Solution Focused Counselor for short-term therapy..

The most important thing for you to know is that I adapt from client to client, and use multiple methods to help you be a better you. Together, we can develop a plan to help you get to a healthier, more fulfilling place in life. Knowing you need help and reaching out for it is a sign of strength. I can’t wait to work with you.
